In preparation for our attendance at the London Investor Show, Research in Finance recently ran an independent survey asking 131 UK private investors their thoughts on current investment topics and their attitude towards the current market.
As part of this survey, private investors were asked countries they think will offer the best investment opportunity over the next 12 to 24 months. USA and UK received the highest proportion of mentions, with 45% and 33% respectively. India (18%), Japan (15%) and Vietnam (14%) are receiving most investor interest within Asian markets.
The survey also asked private investors which sector which will offer the best investment opportunity over the next 12 to 24 months. The energy sector was the stand-out choice, with a huge 45% of the vote. However, there is a clear divide in opinion as to whether the investment opportunity is in green energy or fossil fuels; 23% of investors think the opportunity lies with renewable energy such as solar and wind, while 22% believe non-renewable energy forms, such as oil and gas offer the best opportunity. A close and perhaps unexpected result, given the current trend towards ESG.
